Philosophy of care

Our facility continuously strives for excellence in residential care with respect to the individual’s emotional, spiritual, social, physical and intellectual needs.

Residents are individually assessed and quality care provided with respect for personal privacy and independent choice. It is our wish to provide a safe, secure and home like environment in accordance with the “Charter of the Resident’s Rights.”

General Information

Gippsland Southern Health Service provides a total of 86 residential care beds to the local community.

  • Koorooman House, is a high care facility with 36 nursing home beds located on the grounds at Leongatha Memorial Hospital.
  • Alchera House, is a high care facility with 20 nursing home beds co-located with the Korumburra Hospital.
  • Hillside Lodge, is also a low care facility with 30 hostel beds located on the hospital grounds at Korumburra.
Each facility has an appointed Unit Manager who is charged with the day-to-day running of the facility and ensuring that the best possible care is given to the residents by our staff.

The Unit Managers are:

The Unit Managers report to the Director of Nursing, Mr Neil Langstaff and Chief Executive Officer, Mr Gary Templeton who in turn report to the Board of Management.

Our Finance Manager, Mr Peter Van Hamond and Mr Ian Brandon from Accounts are available to discuss various financial matters with you.

There are of course many people you will come into contact with here at Gippsland Southern Health Service. Our staff will introduce themselves to you and discuss any issues you wish to raise about our facilities. If they are unable to help you they will refer you onto someone else within the organisation who can help.
