GRPCC Clinical Practice Group

The Clinical Practice Group (CPG) has been established by the GRPCC to enhance the provision of quality palliative care primarily through the development of common clinical policies and procedures for adoption by services in the Gippsland region. Comprising representatives from local palliative care services, GPs and specialist support from Dr Jane Fischer (CEO, Calvary Health Care Bethlehem) and Dr Brian McDonald (Peninsula Health), the CPG recently endorsed a referral criteria policy and pathway for referrals to both community and specialist palliative services.

The information, to be circulated to services and GPs in the region seeks to clarify when a referral to palliative care services is indicated and to provide better support for GPs providing care to their patients.

The CPG meetings are usually conducted by teleconference to enable participation by GPs. A range of other policies is currently being developed and once endorsed will be available for use by local palliative care services.
