Central Gippsland Health Service is the major provider of health services and residential aged care services in Wellington Shire, covering virtually the entire municipality except for Yarram and district.
The organisation has more than 70 acute beds, close to 180 high and low care residential aged care beds, as well as 15 independent living units. Its acute services include a 24 hour, seven day a week Emergency Department, operating theatres, day procedure unit, oncology and dialysis services.
The Health Service comprises:
- Acute Services situated at Sale, Maffra and Heyfield
- Community Services provided throughout the Shire of Wellington, excluding Yarram
- Residential Aged Care Services at Sale, Maffra and Heyfield
It serves an immediate population of 42,000 in Central Gippsland, while acute specialist services reach a wider community in East Gippsland and parts of South Gippsland.

 STAFF RECOGNISED FOR LONG SERVICE
A large number of staff at Central Gippsland Health Service has been recognised for 25 years of service.
The 17 staff come from a wide variety of professions and areas of the Health Service, including nurses in aged care, child and maternal and day procedure unit, staff working in catering, environmental services, allied health, medical imaging, dentists and a number of doctors.
The long-serving staff include Tracie Collis, Lynette Hughes, Debbie Kardinaal, Jennifer Lees, Dr Rob McKimm, Judith Ripper, Denis Robertson, Heather Tancred, Joy White, Dr John Bergin, Christine Crouch, Lynette Emphield, Roger Malouf, Dr Rob Melville, Ian Ronchi, Dr Andrew Watt and Ann Payne.
A number of the staff received mementos of their service at the annual reporting meeting in late 2009.
CGHS Chief Executive Dr Frank Evans said between them the staff had provided in excess of 425 years of service.
